What is Swapi?

Free. Secure. Simple.

That is, according to their website what you can expect from Swapi and, whilst at first it took me a little while to work out exactly how the app worked, I tend to agree.

1. Loyalty Card Wallet & Expiry Points Support

Swapi is a free app, compatible with Android and iPhone, which enables its users to combine all their loyalty cards in one place. According to their Crowdcube site, research shows customers carry over a dozen physical cards at any one time. I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve been known to carry that amount just in coffee shop loyalty cards and so immediately I was curious to know more about Swapi and all it had to offer. A huge number of loyalty cards are accepted and can be neatly registered and stored in app.

An added bonus of the Swapi app is that Swapi will reload your expired loyalty points that have expired (with Swapi Points). Head to the Swapi wallet and click on the ‘Expired Points’ tile. Choose the loyalty card which has expired points(must be in the past six months) and add how many points you have lost and a picture of your points statement and Swapi will add back a number of Swapi points equivalent to the expired loyalty points.

2. Cashback Site

Beyond just being a place to store all your cards, the app’s ‘marketplace’ allows its users to make purchases through it (very much like a cashback site) and, in doing so, earn points which can then be exchanged for discount codes or money off vouchers which are accepted by numerous high street and online stores. The app boasts partnerships with over 1000 top brands to bring offers to its valued customers. In terms of activating the cashback, you have 2 options. Clicking through to the site and making a purchase (like Topcashback or Quidco) or registering your card and then using that card in-store or (online) to earn Swapi points( like airtime rewards or mydaali). At the time of writing, it’s pink for stores at which you can only shop online by clicking through via the Swapi app and green for the stores you can earn points when making purchases both in-store and online by registering your credit card.

How to connect with Swapi

Swapi is easy to set up and link your loyalty cards and if you have anywhere near the amount I have, will be a great relief to read! It’s simple enough to link your cards; simply click the ‘Add Card’ button on the app and search for the retailers you have loyalty cards with. You can then add each one to your account either by scanning the back of them or by typing in your unique details manually. All being well, you should be able to discard the plastic counterparts within seconds.

In order to earn points on transactions you carry out using a particular debit/credit card you will obviously need to link that payment method to your account so that Swapi can track the purchases and ensure you receive the Swapi points you have earned. Beyond that, the app only requires a few personal details from you to get you set up, including your name, email address and date of birth. You should now be set up and ready to earn points; remember, you’ll receive up to 1000 points to get you started simply by joining up using our referral link here

But what are the points worth, and better yet, what can they be exchanged for?

What are Swapi points?

Well, according to the Swapi website, you’ll receive up to 3 points for every £1 you spend at M&S or ASOS, whilst it’s only 2 points per £1 at the electrical appliances store, Curry’s. This seems relatively simple to get your head around, if a little arbitrary. I’m not entirely sure how the value of points is worked out but from reading about the Swapi business accounts (more on those later!), it appears that retailers can simply choose how many points each pound spent with them is worth. Regardless, once you have the hang of earning points through making purchases at Swapi’s retailer partners, be sure to head to the Swapi Marketplace to see the impressive range of experiences and products these can be exchanged for.

Current offers on the app include being able to swap 650 Swapi points for a £5 free ride with Uber whilst 100 points will get you a free 30 days of Amazon Prime (although this isn’t great as you can get a free 30-day trial at Amazon for free anyway) and just 50 points will get you an 8% off voucher to use at Hotels.com. There is a real range of gifts and discounts available which can be obtained in exchange for points of varying amounts. I like this because it essentially means there’s something available for everybody’s budget at any time. Swapi is giving you the option to spend less but still find something exciting to exchange points you’ve earned. If my maths is correct, you’d need to spend approximately £217 in M&S to collect enough points to swap for the Uber Voucher but ‘only’ £17 to nab yourself a Hotels.com 8% off voucher.

Final Thoughts on Swapi

Swapi is a great app that allows you to store all your loyalty cards in one place and claim Swapi points if they have expired and allows you to earn points (cashback) when shopping online. This is similar to other cashback sites which may offer higher rates and better payment options (rather than just points which can be converted) but Swapi is a new brand that is growing quickly and I expect it to be promoted with great offers to get a foothold in the market. The linked card cashback is also a great plus point which combines the benefits currently offered by your standard cashback site with some of the functionality offered by card-linked cashback sites. For now, I will use Swapi where it’s easier to do so but also keep an eye on other cashback sites to see if they are offering better deals when making large purchases. I haven’t yet been able to to fukly determine whether the Swapi points work out at a more favourable rate than say topcashback pounds or airtime rewards pounds – but I will see how I get on over the coming months.

The app itself is great, clean, simple and easy to use. The signup is quick and secure. I will include this app on my device and watch for what comes next! If you’re keen to try out Swapi, remember to use our Swapi Referral code here when you sign up and you’ll receive up to 1000 Swapi points to get you started.

Happy shopping and swapping!
